The mission of the Ministry of Christian Outreach is to engage members and friends of First Plymouth in endeavors that promote and support human dignity and social, economic, and environmental justice. The Outreach Ministry provides financial support through grants to nonprofit organizations and volunteer opportunities for anyone to engage in projects that serve those in need. Current projects include: Share the Plate - Each month the Outreach Ministry designates non-profit organizations to receive support from our congregation through Share the Plate offerings. Some of the recipients of these Outreach Funds have been Work Options for Women, Family Homestead, Denver Inner City Parish, One Great Hour of Sharing, Denver Rescue Mission, Back Bay Mission, La Puente, Kentucky Circle, and Eco-Justice Ministries. Members may nominate an organization to receive Share the Plate funding by filling out a Nominate the Plate application found at Mission Central or by request at sharetheplate@firstplymouthchurch.org.
Rwanda - Annually, individuals sponsor children in Kenombe Village, Rwanda, so that they may go to school, receive clothing, and have a healthy breakfast. Click here for more information. Even loans of a small amount can change the lives of people in third-world countries. Back to top Can-Do Sundays - Every third Sunday, members bring canned goods to church to support the efforts of Metro CareRing, which provides advocacy and emergency services to the poor in Denver. Back to top English Language Acquisition Program - In collaboration with Temple Sinai, members teach English to immigrants in Denver. Habitat for Humanity - First Plymouth is a member of Loaves & Fishes, a consortium of churches in the greater Denver metropolitan area which provides volunteers of all skill levels to help build Habitat for Humanity homes for low income families locally, across the U.S., and internationally. The 2010 Habitat for Humanity house at 1005 S Patton Court in Southwest Denver will be starting construction in mid-July. The fifteen churches which make up Loaves and Fishes are separated into four teams which rotate the four days of construction each week. First Plymouth is in Team Four with Columbine United Church and Heritage United Methodist Church, and together we need to provide eight workers for each work day.
